Sandhya Mukherjee is also known as Sandhya Mukhopadhyay. She was born on 4th October 1931. Mukherjee is one of the finest Singers and a Musician, primarily in Bengali music.

She is a diva of the Bengali Music Industry. To her, music was not just a passion but devotion. Sandhya Mukherjee was born in Calcutta to Narendranath Mukherjee and Hemaporva Devi. Her father was a government employee working in the Indian Railways.

Initially, Sandhya Mukherjee started her classical singing training under the guidance of Pandit Santosh Kumar Basu, Professor AT Kannan, and Professor Chinmoy Lahiri.

Later, she mastered classical singing with the help of her Guru Ustad Bade Ghulam Ali Khan. In 1966 she married the Bengali poet Shyamal Gupta, who also wrote lyrics for several of her songs. She started her career by singing in Mumbai as a playback singer in Bollywood movies but decided to get back to her homeland Kolkat
