    On the day of Opening Ceremony of the "A-bombs Exhibit for Peace", Ms. Shigeko Sasamori along with her son, Mr. Norman Cousins Sasamori, were invited from Los Angeles.

    Ms. Sasamori spoke on "Love & Peace" where she described her own experience on the day of atomic bombing in Hiroshima on August 6, 1945.

     

    Nearly 200 people in the audience were moved by her stories, and she received a standing ovation at the end of her keynote speech.

    Shigeko Sasamori was 13 years old when the atomic bomb was dropped on Hiroshima, Japan, on August 6, 1945. She was knocked unconsciously by the blast and heavily burnt; yet, she survived. In 1955, she was invited as one of the 25 “Hiroshima Maidens” to receive reconstructive surgeries in the U.

    S. Later, she was adopted by Dr. Norman Cousins, studied nursing, and became a nurse as she was impressed with and grateful for her nurses’ care while goin
